Delhi Government Launches Intensive 45-Day Citywide PWD Clean-Up Mission Across 1,400 Kilometers to Combat Air Pollution
The Delhi government has launched a comprehensive 45-day citywide clean-up mission aimed at addressing the city’s growing air pollution crisis. The initiative, spearheaded by the Public Works Department (PWD), is designed to target more than 1,400 kilometers of roads across the capital. The primary focus is on reducing road dust, one of the key contributors to PM2.5 and PM10 particulate matter.
The mission is being executed with the deployment of over 200 maintenance vans, which are tasked with cleaning road surfaces, removing debris, and repairing infrastructure along major roads and footpaths. These vans are also responsible for filling potholes and addressing issues related to street signage and streetlights. Each maintenance van is expected to clean at least 200 meters of road daily. The effort is being closely monitored to ensure accountability, with strict guidelines for progress and performance set in place.
