The government of Delhi has made significant progress in its large-scale redevelopment drive, completing paving and beautification work across more than 400 kilometres of roads ahead of the March 2026 deadline. This ambitious initiative forms a key part of the city’s broader infrastructure push aimed at improving mobility, reducing pollution, and enhancing the overall urban landscape.
The redevelopment project focuses on upgrading major arterial roads across the capital through a “wall-to-wall carpeting” approach. Unlike traditional patchwork repairs, this method ensures that entire road stretches are rebuilt uniformly, including strengthening the base layer, improving drainage systems, and applying a durable surface. The goal is to create longer-lasting roads that are resistant to wear and tear while also addressing chronic issues such as potholes and waterlogging.
Officials noted that the project was carefully planned to ensure timely execution before the March deadline, despite seasonal challenges. Weather conditions, particularly during winter, posed constraints on construction activity, as road surfacing requires specific temperature conditions.
