The forum, inaugurated with much fanfare in Mumbai, has quickly emerged as a powerful platform for dialogue, innovation, and collaboration among temple authorities, scholars, and spiritual leaders from across the world.

The GTF seeks to reimagine temple administration by incorporating contemporary best practices in areas such as finance, infrastructure, digital outreach, environmental sustainability, and community engagement. The objective is to ensure that temples continue to thrive not only as centers of faith but also as modern institutions capable of delivering public service, preserving heritage, and fostering harmony.

A Vision for Global Unity and Modernization

The launch event saw participation from major temples in India—including the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams, Kashi Vishwanath, Vaishno Devi, Jagannath Puri, and Meenakshi Temple—as well as renowned temples from the UK, US, Canada, Australia, Mauritius, Nepal, Trinidad & Tobago, Indonesia, Fiji, and Kenya. Delegates hailed from both urban mega-temples and small village shrines, underscoring the universal appeal and relevance of the forum.

Union Minister of Culture and Tourism, who inaugurated the event, emphasized that temples have historically played a central role in Indian society—not only as spiritual centers but also as hubs of education, economy, and culture. “Temples must evolve with time,” he said. “They must be custodians of dharma and also champions of service, efficiency, and environmental stewardship.”

The forum envisions temples not merely as ritual spaces, but as dynamic institutions that can serve modern-day society through transparent governance, digital innovation, and inclusive community outreach.

Focus Areas of the Forum

The Global Temple Forum will focus on five primary pillars:

Good Governance – Introducing standard operating procedures, ethical guidelines, transparent accounting systems, and professional management models for temple boards and trusts.

Digital Transformation – Promoting the use of technology for temple administration, darshan booking, virtual donations, livestreaming of rituals, and online outreach to connect devotees across the globe.

Cultural Diplomacy – Encouraging cultural exchange between temples worldwide to showcase the richness of Sanatana Dharma and Hindu rituals, music, dance, and festivals.

Sustainability and Ecology – Guiding temples to adopt green practices, including solar energy usage, water conservation, organic prasadam kitchens, and eco-friendly pilgrim management.

Education and Outreach – Supporting spiritual education, youth programs, temple history documentation, and interfaith dialogue to deepen the understanding of Hindu values in modern contexts.

A Global Sangam of Temples

One of the forum’s key features is the creation of a digital platform where participating temples can share resources, exchange ideas, and access training modules on modern temple management. The goal is to enable even small and remote temples to benefit from best practices being used by larger and better-funded institutions.

From London’s BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir and the Sri Venkateswara Temple in New Jersey to Bali’s Besakih Temple and Mauritius’ Ganga Talao, temples are contributing unique perspectives on integrating tradition with technology. Many shared inspiring stories of how they kept their communities connected during the COVID-19 pandemic through digital satsangs, online pujas, and remote fundraising.

“This is a historic step in global Hindu unity,” said Swami Brahmanand, a senior monk from the Ramakrishna Mission, who addressed the forum virtually. “Temples today must be centers of service—feeding the hungry, teaching values, healing the mind, and leading society forward.”

Empowering the Future of Sanatana Dharma

The Global Temple Forum also aims to mentor the next generation of temple leaders—priests, administrators, and volunteers—through structured training and capacity-building initiatives. The forum’s leadership announced plans to collaborate with universities and spiritual institutes to develop certified programs in Temple Management and Spiritual Leadership.

Significantly, the forum places emphasis on inclusivity and regional representation. Women-led temples, tribal shrines, diaspora communities, and youth-led mandirs were given special prominence in the discussions. Their stories revealed how temples are adapting to local cultures while preserving the essence of Vedic tradition.

The Road Ahead

With more than 1,500 temples already on board and growing interest from others, the Global Temple Forum is poised to become a transformative movement in the realm of spiritual infrastructure. Regular conclaves, webinars, and regional summits are planned to keep the momentum going. A GTF Charter is also being drafted to codify principles of ethical governance, transparency, and spiritual excellence for member temples.

India, as the spiritual motherland of Hinduism, is leading this effort not as an authority but as a facilitator. Its aim is to unite and empower temples around the world so they can better serve humanity and represent the values of Sanatana Dharma with dignity and dynamism.

As the world grapples with division, materialism, and ecological crises, the Global Temple Forum offers a refreshing vision: one of unity, purpose, and spirituality in action. Through temples that are not only sacred but also sustainable, inclusive, and forward-looking, the forum envisions a dharmic renaissance for the 21st century.

[39

post-3557","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-london_july_2025
["GET
